Scene v
Finally we reach the scene where Romeo and Juliet meet each other! The scene itself lays the stage for the final confrontation between Tybalt and Romeo ahead, while also showing the reader the meeting of the title characters.
It's worthwhile to note that Romeo and Juliet's first lines (starting from line 95) are written in the form of a sonnet, a poetic style that Shakespeare usually uses to emphasize or promote a sense of love. It also strengthens the sense of foreshadowing that began in the prologue because a comparison is made to that original sonnet talking about Romeo and Juliet's untimely deaths, and this sonnet where they meet.
We will also be watching the first Act from the Baz Luhrmann's 1996 Romeo + Juliet film. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo, and Claire Danes as Juliet, and is set in a modern time instead of an Elizabethean time.
After we watch the first Act, write a post in your blogs that discusses the film compared to the written play we've been reading.

Keep in mind:
- How does the film change your interpretation of Romeo and Juliet?
- Modern day re-enactment
- Visually seeing the scenes as opposed to hearing/reading them
- Why do you think we read the play as a class, as opposed to just showing the whole movie and then discussing it together?
- What might pros/cons be of choosing one over the other?
