- The United Nations (UN): an international organization devoted to solving the world’s problems, and was formed at the end of WWII
- Includes more than 180 countries, yet often has trouble solving major international crises due to political differences amongst the members
- UNICEF, FAO, WHO are examples of programs/organizations run by the UN
- Also acts as the world’s peacekeepers, by allocating soldiers and forces in areas where there is a tentative truce that must be assisted in being enforced
- Foreign Aid: Canada contributes funds, materials, knowledge, and skills to help developing countries improve their incomes, food supply, literacy levels, and health care
- CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency) manages most of Canada’s foreign aid, and has 4 principals of operation:
- Deal with poverty first
- Help people to help themselves
- Promote development
- Build partnerships

- Globalization: process by which most regions of the world have become increasingly interconnected in terms of economics, culture, and financial services in part thanks to modern communications technologies
- Corporate Citizens: companies that show loyalty to a particular country
- Multinational Corporations: large companies that operate in more than one country
- Examples are McDonald’s, Nike, Walmart, Walt Disney, Microsoft, Shell Oil etc.
- Pros: can bring new business into Canada if it is deemed a money-making transition, providing new jobs and growing our economy
- Cons: can remove business from Canada if it seems more profitable, which can reduce jobs and devastate the economy
- Due to the Americanization of the world (movies, music, tv shows, clothing etc. are all reflective of American society and culture) some areas are losing their own identities and cultures
- Teenagers in Pakistan, Peru, and Peterborough may watch the same television shows and movies, listen to the same music, and wear the same clothing style
